Actually, when our leaders get in bed with big business, it makes running the country so much easier. For example: FROM: http://www.barackobama.com/issues/ ...."Health insurance must work for people and businesses, not just insurance and drug companies." [see DRUG companies?] so Obama gets in bed with the drug companies (.."the White House shared the drug lobbyists’ interpretation of the deal: that any health care overhaul would not include allowing direct government negotiation of drug prices AND, the next day" ..."The drug industry has authorized its lobbyists to spend as much as $150 million on television commercials supporting President Obama’s health care overhaul..") And BINGO .... the drug companies are no longer a problem. Now he just has to badger the health insurance companies! See how easy it is? .

What are the particular, defining differences between a church, chapel, cathedral, abbey, etc.?
I'm writing a story based in a medieval/fantasy setting (think Dungeons & Dragons). For one particular location in the story, I'd like a place of worship; however, I'm not sure the type of phrasing to use. What are the particular differences between a church, chapel, temple, cathedral, abbey, bethel, priory, cloister, etc.? Any suggestions on which is best to use?

Church refers to the group or body of persons who share faith based in Christianity. All other uses of this term extend from this (Judeo-Christian) and related contexts. A chapel is a church or area of worship, sometimes small and attached to a larger institution such as a large church, a college, a hospital, a palace, a prison or a cemetery, sometimes large and unattached to another building Architecturally, a chapel may be a part of a large church set aside for some specific use or purpose: for instance, Gothic cathedrals typically have a "Lady Chapel" in the apse, dedicated to Mary; parish churches may have a "Blessed Sacrament Chapel" attached to the main church where the Eucharist is kept between services. A temple is a structure reserved for religious or spiritual activities, such as prayer and sacrifice, or analogous rites (as in masonry). It is a general term for a house of worship. As a distinct term from those used to describe other religious structures, a temple is often viewed as a dwelling place of a god or gods. Temples have been built by both ancient and modern religions according to a wide variety of traditions in religious architecture. The majority of the main temples, along the major religions, are aligned in the cardinal directions, especially in an east-west axis which symbolically represents the sun's path, the "donor of life". In Judaism, from the Bible, the hebrew term for temple is "sanctuary", "palace" or "hall". A temple is sometimes referred to as a "palace of God". A cathedral is a Christian church building, specifically of a denomination with an episcopal hierarchy, such as the Anglican, Roman Catholic and some Lutheran churches, which serves as the central church of a diocese, and thus as a bishop's seat. As cathedrals are often particularly impressive edifices, the term is often used incorrectly as a designation for any large important church. An abbey (from the Latin abbatia, which is derived from the Syriac abba, "father"), is a Christian monastery or convent, under the government of an Abbot or an Abbess, who serve as the spiritual father or mother of the community. A priory differs from an abbey only in that the superior bears the title of prior instead of abbot. Priories were originally offshoots from the larger abbeys, to the abbots of which they continued subordinate; however, the actual distinction between abbeys and priories was lost by the Renaissance. Do not confuse the term convent with the term monastery. Both nuns and monks live in monasteries. Sisters, members of active orders, live in convents. Nuns who are cloistered live in monasteries. Bethel (בית אל), also written as Beth El or Beth-El, is a Semitic word that has acquired various meanings. A priory is a monastery or monastic dependency whose superior is entitled prior. A cloister (from latin claustrum) is a part of cathedral, monastic and abbey architecture. A cloister consists usually of four corridors, with a courtyard or garth in the middle. It is intended to be both covered from the rain, but open to the air. The attachment of a cloister to a Cathedral church usually indicates that it is (or was once) a monastic foundation.

In the Da Vinci Code itself, it states that the societies mentioned are real, not the story. There may also be some basis in fact about some of the items mentioned in the book, like the cypher roll that you have to enter the right 5 word code in order to open, otherwise the vinegar enclosed in glass in the cylinder will break and destroy the interior information written on easily disintegrated paper.

In Christian mythology, the Holy Grail was the dish, plate, or cup used by Jesus at the Last Supper, said to possess miraculous powers. The connection of Joseph of Arimathea with the Grail legend dates from Robert de Boron's Joseph d'Arimathie (late twelfth century) in which Joseph receives the Grail from an apparition of Jesus and sends it with his followers to Great Britain; building upon this theme, later writers recounted how Joseph used the Grail to catch Christ's blood while interring him and that in Britain he founded a line of guardians to keep it safe. The quest for the Holy Grail makes up an important segment of the Arthurian cycle, appearing first in works by Chrétien de Troyes.[1] The legend may combine Christian lore with a Celtic myth of a cauldron endowed with special powers. The development of the Grail legend has been traced in detail by cultural historians: It is a legend which first came together in the form of written romances, deriving perhaps from some pre-Christian folklore hints, in the later 12th and early 13th centuries. The early Grail romances centered on Percival and were woven into the more general Arthurian fabric. The Grail romances started in France and were translated into other European vernaculars; only a handful of non-French romances added any essential new elements. Some of the Grail legend is interwoven with legends of the Holy Chalice. Origins of the Grail The Grail plays a different role everywhere it appears, but in most versions of the legend the hero must prove himself worthy to be in its presence. In the early tales, Percival's immaturity prevents him from fulfilling his destiny when he first encounters the Grail, and he must grow spiritually and mentally before he can locate it again. In later tellings the Grail is a symbol of God's grace, available to all but only fully realized by those who prepare themselves spiritually, like the saintly Galahad. Early forms of the Grail There are two schools of thought concerning the Grail's origin. The first, championed by Roger Sherman Loomis, Alfred Nutt, and Jessie Weston, holds that it derived from early Celtic myth and folklore. Loomis traced a number of parallels between Medieval Welsh literature and Irish material and the Grail romances, including similarities between the Mabinogion's Bran the Blessed and the Arthurian Fisher King, and between Bran's life-restoring cauldron and the Grail. Other legends featured magical platters or dishes that symbolize otherworldly power or test the hero's worth. Sometimes the items generate a never-ending supply of food, sometimes they can raise the dead. Sometimes they decide who the next king should be, as only the true sovereign could hold them. On the other hand, some scholars believe the Grail began as a purely Christian symbol. For example, Joseph Goering of the University of Toronto has identified sources for Grail imagery in 12th-century wall paintings from churches in the Catalan Pyrenees (now mostly removed to the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, Barcelona), which present unique iconic images of the Virgin Mary holding a bowl that radiates tongues of fire, images that predate the first literary account by Chrétien de Troyes. Goering argues that they were the original inspiration for the Grail legend. [2] [3] Another recent theory holds that the earliest stories that cast the Grail in a Christian light were meant to promote the Roman Catholic sacrament of the Holy Communion. Although the practice of Holy Communion was first alluded to in the Christian Bible and defined by theologians in the first centuries A.D., it was around the time of the appearance of the first Christianized Grail literature that the Roman church was beginning to add more ceremony and mysticism around this particular sacrament. Thus, the first Grail stories may have been celebrations of a renewal in this traditional sacrament [4] This theory has some backing by the fact that Grail legends are almost entirely a phenomenon of the Western church (see below). Most scholars today accept that both Christian and Celtic traditions contributed to the legend's development, though many of the early Celtic-based arguments are largely discredited (Loomis himself came to reject much of Weston and Nutt's work). The general view is that the central theme of the Grail is Christian, even when not explicitly religious, but that much of the setting and imagery of the early romances is drawn from Celtic material. The Prieuré de Sion, usually rendered in English translation as Priory of Sion (occasionally as 'Priory of Zion'), is an alleged thousand-year-old cabal featured in various conspiracy theories, as well as being listed as a factual ancient society in the bestselling novel The Da Vinci Code. It has been characterized as anything from the most influential secret society in Western history to a modern Rosicrucian-esque ludibrium, but, ultimately, has been shown to be a hoax created in 1956 by Pierre Plantard, a pretender to the French throne. The evidence presented in support of its historical existence has not been considered authentic or persuasive by established historians, academics, and universities, and the evidence was later discovered to have been forged and then planted in various locations around France by Plantard and his associates. Nevertheless, many conspiracy theorists insist on the truth of the Priory's role as a powerful secret society. [1] The Alleged Priory If the claims had been proven to be true, they would have described the Priory of Sion as a secret society that was founded in the 11th century, to protect and preserve a secret involving the bloodline of Jesus Christ. The Priory allegedly created the medieval order of Knights Templar as its military arm, and had a series of Grand Masters which included such notable (and real) historical figures as Isaac Newton, Victor Hugo, and Leonardo da Vinci. The existence of the thousand-year-old Priory was supposedly "revealed" in the 1970s, via a series of documentaries and books by writers Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh, and Henry Lincoln, such as in their 1982 book The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail, which allegedly pieced together evidence from documents which had been found in the French National Library, as well as documents which were supposedly found in the late 1800s, hidden inside a pillar of a small church in southern France. Further attention came to the Priory when it was referred to as a factual society by the 2003 bestselling novel The Da Vinci Code. [ The Actual Priory The real Priory of Sion is an association that was founded in 1956, in the French town of Annemasse, as the beginning of a massive hoax. As with all associations, French law required the association to be registered with the government. It was registered with its Statutes at the Sub-Prefecture of Saint Julien-en-Genevois, in May 1956, and its registration was noted on 20 July 1956, in the Journal Officiel de la République Française. The founders and signatories are inscribed with their pseudonyms as Pierre Plantard (known as "Chyren"), André Bonhomme (known as "Stanis Bellas"), Jean Delaval, and Armand Defago. The purpose of the association according to its Statutes was entered as, "Études et entraide des membres" ("education and mutual aid of the members"). In practice, the originator of the association and its key protagonist was Pierre Plantard, its General Secretary, although its nominal head ("President") was André Bonhomme. The choice of the name, "Sion" was based on a popular local feature, a hill south of Annemasse in France, known as 'Mont Sion'.[2] The accompanying title, or subtitle to the name was, Chevalerie d'Institutions et Règles Catholiques d'Union Independante et Traditionaliste: this forms the acronym CIRCUIT and translates as "Knighthood of Catholic Rule and Institution and of Independent Traditionalist Union." The Statutes and Registration Documents of the Priory of Sion were deposited on 7 May 1956, while the first issue of its journal Circuit is dated 27 May 1956 (in total, twelve numbers of the journal appeared). Considering the political instability of the French Fourth Republic, the objectives of the journal were regarded with suspicion by the local authorities. It was indicated as a "Bulletin d'Information et Défense des Droits et de la Liberté des Foyers HLM" ("News Bulletin for the Defence of the Rights and the Freedom of Council Housing"). Indeed, some of the articles took a political position in the local Council elections. Others attacked and criticized property developers of Annemasse. It also opposed the gentrification of the area. The offices of the Priory of Sion and the journal were at Plantard's council flat. The articles of the Priory of Sion as indicated in its Statutes also desired the creation of a monastic order, but the activities of the Priory of Sion bore no resemblance whatsoever to the objectives as outlined in its Statutes. Article VII says that its members are expected, "to carry out good deeds, to help the Catholic Church, teach the truth, defend the weak and the oppressed". There is ample evidence that it had several members, as indicated by the numerous articles contained in its journal Circuit, written by a number of different people. Towards the end of 1956 the association had aims to forge links with the local Catholic Church of the area involving a school bus service run by both the Priory of Sion and the church of St Joseph in Annemasse. The Hoax Plantard hoped that the Priory of Sion would become an influential cryptopolitical irregular masonic lodge (similar to P2) dedicated to the restoration of chivalry and monarchy, which would promote Plantard's own claim to the throne of France. Between 1961 and 1984 Plantard contrived a mythical pedigree of the Priory of Sion claiming that it was the offshoot of the monastic order housed in the Abbey of Sion, which had been founded in the Kingdom of Jerusalem during the First Crusade and later absorbed by the Jesuits in 1617. The mistake is often made that this Abbey of Sion was a "Priory of Sion", but there is a difference between an abbey and a priory. Calling his original 1956 group "Priory of Sion" undoubtedly gave Plantard the later idea to claim that his organization had been historically founded in Jerusalem during the Crusades. Forged documents Le Tresor Maudit de Rennes-le-Chateau, 1967In order to give credibility to the fabricated lineage and pedigree, Plantard and his friend Philippe de Cherisey needed to create "independent evidence". So during the 1960s, they deposited a series of forged documents, the so-called Dossiers Secrets d'Henri Lobineau or "Secret Dossiers of Henri Lobineau", at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, in Paris. Also in the 1960s, Plantard began writing a manuscript and had a series of "medieval parchments" forged by de Cherisey which contained encrypted messages that referred to the Priory of Sion. The story that they concocted claimed that Father Bérenger Saunière had supposedly discovered these seemingly ancient parchments inside of a pillar while renovating his church in Rennes-le-Château in 1891. The story and existence of the parchments was intended to prove Plantard's claims about the Priory of Sion being a medieval society. Plantard then enlisted the aid of author Gérard de Sède to write a book based on Plantard's manuscript and forged parchments, alleging that Sauniere had discovered a link to a hidden treasure. The 1967 book, entitled L'Or de Rennes (The Gold of Rennes) and Le Tresor Maudit de Rennes-le-Chateau (The Accursed Treasure of Rennes Castle), became a popular read in France. It included copies of the "found" documents (the originals were of course never produced), though it provided them without any kind of translation. Expansion of the story In 1969, English actor and science-fiction script-writer Henry Lincoln read Le Tresor Maudit, and became intrigued. He discovered one of the encrypted messages, which read A Dagobert II Roi et a Sion est ce tresor, et il est là mort. (Trans: "To King Dagobert II and to Sion does this treasure belong, and he is there dead."). This was an allusion to a treasure belonging to the Merovingian line of Frankish kings, the last one of which, Dagobert II, had been assassinated in the 7th century, thereby ending the dynasty. Lincoln continued to do his own research and expansion on the conspiracy theories, writing his own books on the subject, and creating a series of BBC Two documentaries in the 1970s about the mysteries of the Rennes-le-Chateau area. In response to a tip from De Sede, Lincoln claims he was also the one who "discovered" the Dossiers Secrets, a series of (planted) genealogies which appeared to further confirm the link with the line of Merovingians. The documents claimed that the Priory had been founded in 1099, and had founded the organization of the Knights Templar. Proof of the conspiracy Letters in existence dating from the 1960s written by Plantard, de Cherisey and de Sede to each other confirm that the three were engaging in an out-and-out confidence trick, describing schemes on how to combat criticisms of their various allegations and how they would make-up new allegations to try and keep the whole thing going. These letters (totalling over 100) are in the possession of French researcher Jean-Luc Chaumeil, who has also retained the original envelopes. Jean-Luc Chaumeil during the 1970s was part of the Priory of Sion cabal, and wrote books and articles about Plantard and the Priory of Sion before splitting from it during the late 1970s and exposing Plantard's past in French books. A letter later discovered at the Sub-Prefecture of St. Julien-en-Genevois also indicated that Plantard had a criminal conviction as a con man. The disposition of the "real" Priory The formally registered association was dissolved sometime after October 1956 but intermittently revived for different reasons by Plantard between 1962 and 1993, though in name and on paper only. The Priory of Sion is considered "dormant" by the Sub-Prefecture because it has indicated no activities since 1956. According to French law, subsequent references to the Priory bear no legal relation to that of 1956 and no one other than the original signatories are entitled to use its name in an official capacity. André Bonhomme played no part since 1956. He officially resigned in 1973 when he heard that Plantard was linking his name with the association, so as of last report, there is no one who is currently around who has official permission to use the name.

The Holy Grail is not a real object. Is the ideal goal the we insensibly search during our lives and requires the best of us to get near to, but we can never reach. The Priory of Sion and the list of members mentioned in 'The Davinci Code' is part of a hoax created in 1956 by a charlatan named Pierre Plantard who claimed to be heir to the throne of France.

Is 'The Da Vinci Code based on historical fact?
I'm asking because I was terribly dissapointed when I saw this documentary on the History Channel that says that all that thing about the Priory of Sion was made up by a man in the 50s. So settle it for me. Is it true or a bunch of B.S.? Same question goes for 'Angels And Demons' about the Illuminati.

The facts include the Gnostics Gospels, Constantine and the conference in Nicea, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Knights Templar, and so on. The facts are a backdrop for an exciting and thought-provoking piece of fiction. It certainly makes sense, when you consider all the persecution of women and other who didn't share the Catholic beliefs in the bad old days. So I think he put forward a plausible story. Whether any of it is true, is up to you. I think it has a lot of truth in it.

The Davinci code is a mixture of conspiracy theory and true historic research. The problem is the author mixes so many different links between organizations, secret societies, and even Davinci himself that it is obviously embellishment. When you search the historical facts that he uses to validate his research it is a mixture of fact and fiction that does not support his story. His story is just that, a good story. Many times he has one fact or truth to prove a really bad conspiracy theory when you really need a culmination of truths to prove what he is saying. The 3 religions that the Davinci code attacks are Christian, Catholic, and Judaism. It is important to understand their point of view on the breakdown because one author seeks to dismantle 3 different religions through one book that is definitely not historically accurate. If you want to see the theological breakdown you can look at one of the following sites: For a Catholic perspective this is a great article: http://www.catholicculture.org/docs/doc_view.cfm?recnum=5342 For a Christian perspective this is my favorite article located on this website: http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2003/144/52.0.html The Washington Times put out an article that gives the different points of view here: http://www.washtimes.com/national/20040216-121916-6332r.htm

Most of the hypotheses proposed in the Da Vinci Code are not able to be proven and some are invitingly specious with spurious conclusions. However, it is a very interesting read and it has ignited a great deal of interest in history, travel and religion. Isn't that worth something? Here are some interesting comments regarding the religious aspects of the book: Da Vinci Code Movie on the Way! http://www.ubiquityinternational.com/drtom/2006/01/da-vinci-code-movie-is-on-its-way.htm Da Vinci Code Redux http://www.ubiquityinternational.com/drtom/2006/03/da-vinci-code-redux.htm

I have checked on the system, and there are two types of Off-peak fares available for your journey - the Off-peak and the Off-peak day (note the word 'day'). The Off-peak is restriction code 4A which is valid any time after 09.30am. The Off-peak day is restriction code B3. The outward portion is valid any time after 09.00am and the return portion is valid at any time.

Isaac Newton was Member of any secret societies?
Isaac Newton has often been associated with various secret societies and fraternal orders throughout history. Due to the secretive nature of such organizations, lack of supportive publicized material, and dubious motives for claiming Newton's participation in these groups, it is difficult to establish his actual membership in any specific organization. Or Perhaps the movement which most influenced Isaac Newton was Rosicrucianism. Or It has been claimed that Newton was a Grand Master of the mythical and exhaustively debunked Priory of Sion.

Yes, but its still a secret! Seriously! Isaac Newton has often been associated with various secret societies and fraternal orders throughout history. Due to the secretive nature of such organizations, lack of supportive publicized material, and dubious motives for claiming Newton's participation in these groups, it is difficult to establish his actual membership in any specific organization. Regardless of his own membership status, Newton was a known associate of many individuals who themselves have often been labeled as members of various esoteric groups. It is unclear if these associations were a result of being a well established and prominently publicized scholar, an early member and sitting President of The Royal Society (1703–1727), a prominent figure of State and Master of the Mint, a recognized Knight, or if Newton actually sought active membership within these esoteric organizations himself. Considering the nature and legality of alchemical practices during his lifetime, as well as his possession of various materials and manuscripts pertaining to alchemical research, Newton may very well have been a member of a group of like minded thinkers and colleagues. The organized level of this group (if in fact any existed), the level of their secrecy, as well as the depth of Newton's involvement within them, remains unclear. Though Newton was largely considered a reclusive personality and not prone to socializing, during his lifetime being a member of "Societies" or "Clubs" was a very popular form of interpersonal networking. Considering his esteemed social status, it is probable that Newton would have had a least some contact with such groups at various levels. He was most certainly a member of The Royal Society of London for the Improvement of Natural Knowledge and the Spalding Gentlemen’s Society, however, these are considered learned societies, not esoteric societies. Newton's membership status within any particular secret society remains verifiably allusive and largely speculative, however, it still lends itself to popular sensationalism. .

Sweetie, much as I liked the book, it's just fiction. the Priori of Scion could be true, if so, Jesus' descendants could still be out there. The Last Supper was just Leonardo da Vinci's depiction. Who could really say what's the seating arrangement was during the Last Supper? Just enjoy the book for what it's worth. You could read related books that sprang up after it's success -- both pro and against.

The book is a work of fiction. As with any piece of fiction you must suspend disbelief to read it. And as with any fiction you get to decide how to fill in any gaps the author doesn't complete. Dan Brown writes fictional novels not historical references.

Answer 4
Well the thing is Brown wrote a historical fiction. He used real events and places in history, like the knight Templar but added to them. There is no historical evidence that Jesus had any children. In the painting of the Last Supper, it is believed to be one of his disciples. There was one, I forget who, that is described as younger and did not have a beard. So that accounts for the fact that the person sitting to Jesus right, may and probably is that disciple. If he did not then we are missing one of Jesus disciples in the painting and I doubt that one would have left out one of them. If he had meant it to be a woman or another person then we would have 14 people in the painting instead of the 13. Jesus and the 12 disciples. There have been some that say that the person to Jesus right is a woman but many historians do not agree with that idea. Like I said Brown wrote a work of historical fiction. That means many of the people, places and organizations are real, but they are added to greatly and even made into things they were not really about. While the story of how the knights Templar were killed is true, and thus why Friday 13 is considered an unlucky day. There are a lot of exaggerations in his book and many things that are just not true.

Answer 5
New research has revealed a woman, when you use the mirror reversal. Remember that mirror reversal was something Leonardo was well known for as he wrote backwards. The Priory of Sion is an existing organization, I looked it up. The rest, is well protected. One of the things about esoteric teachings is that they are kept secret. They are kept secret while being practiced in the open. Many of the great leaders within history were guided by esoteric traditions. Though it is not obviously so. Leonardo does seem to be a man deep influenced by an esoteric teaching. As seen in his writing and the symbolic of his art work. The reason it is hidden, is because human nature tends to destroy what it does not understand, does not control or what is a symbol of an others intellectual advancement. Understanding this leads ultimately from question to answer and then to more questions. Another factor I found very interesting was that the symbology within the Priory of Sion is similar to the Masons, which is also a very old traditional esoteric teaching. I would not be surprised to find that there is more truth in the 'story' than we think. What we do not know is so much greater than what we do know. Last note - The Christians were not the only ones to write about that period of time. There are scrolls within the "Church" hidden from the common people, like you and me. Also, remember that they voted on what would be put into the bible. (and at times, some of the people eligible to vote where put into prison on the day of voting .... leaves a lot to wonder about) look up the Gnostics.

Answer 6
According to the NY Times book review by Laura Miller on February 22, 2004, the Priory of Sion is a little splinter social group founded about 50 years ago. The genealogical tables and other documents were fabricated by co-conspirators of Pierre Plantard. Remember that Leonardo's painting is just an interpretation of a scene that took place 1,00 years earlier. "Any art historian could tell [Brown] that the figure, always thought to be St. John the Apostle, resembles other Leonardo portraits of biblical figures as effeminate men.* If Da Vinci thought John looked like a girly man, that's one thing. But a girlish-looking figure in a painting isn't proof that Mary was present at the Last Supper, let alone that Jesus and Mary were married. (And, by the way, if Mary was sitting in John's seat at the Last Supper, where was John?)" There are books at the library and bookstore that debunk many of the "facts" in this book.

Answer 7
The Priory de Sion is a true organization, but not what Dan Brown suggests. "Does the Priory of Sion really exist? Yes, but not as described by Brown. Researchers suspect that members of the real-life Priory of Sion, founded in 1956, forged documents that placed major historical figures—such as Isaac Newton and Leonard da Vinci—in an ancient secret society. There is no evidence for this group beyond dubious documents. Any story relating this group to a dynasty begun by Jesus and Mary Magdalene is a fanciful work of fiction." from 5 Big Questions from The Da Vinci Code A brief guide. by Christianity Today magazine Associate Editor Collin Hansen and from Wikipedia "The Prieuré de Sion, usually rendered in English translation as Priory of Sion (occasionally as 'Priory of Zion'), is an alleged thousand-year-old cabal featured in various conspiracy theories, as well as being listed as a factual ancient mystery religion in the bestselling novel The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. It has been characterized as anything from the most influential secret society in Western history to a modern Rosicrucian-esque ludibrium, but, ultimately, has been shown to be a hoax created in 1956 by Pierre Plantard, a pretender to the French throne. The evidence presented in support of its historical existence is not considered authentic or persuasive by established historians, academics, and universities, and the evidence was later discovered to have been forged and then planted in various locations around France by Plantard and his associates." No, there are no physical descendants of Jesus...only spiritual. No, Leonardo Da Vinci didn't paint a woman in place of one of the 12 disciples. If one looks more feminine than the others it's because John is believed to have been merely a boy. Da Vinci painted according to the Biblical accounts. There are a lot of fallacies in The Da Vinci Code and any number of books (like The Da Vinci Hoax: Exposing the Errors in The Da Vinci Code by Carl Olson & Sandra Miesel) that you can read that talk about each. You can find some sites that talk about them, too - for instance: http://www.thetruthaboutdavinci.com/christian-analysis-of-da-vinci-code.html http://www.thetruthaboutdavinci.com/reading-leonardos-the-last-supper.html http://go.family.org/davinci/content/A000000061.cfm (10 errors found in the Da Vinci Code)

Answer 8
You can certainly look at the painting online and look for yourself to see if it's a woman next to Christ. I've looked. . . . it's either a feminine man or a masculine woman! I suppose that the descendents of Jesus could still be alive today if he actually had children. I suppose it is what you believe. There is a large gap in the bible about the life of Jesus. . . . it is feasible that during that time he married and had children. There are some that believe that Jesus was not worldly in that aspect. Obviously, if Jesus choose not to have children, there would be no direct descendents. There could always be descendents through cousins. . . . or second cousins, again depending on what you believe about Mary. A lot of what Dan Brown says in the story is based on what people believe but nothing has been proven.

Answer 9
Sweetie, much as I liked the book, it's just fiction. the Priori of Scion could be true, if so, Jesus' descendants could still be out there. The Last Supper was just Leonardo da Vinci's depiction. Who could really say what's the seating arrangement was during the Last Supper? Just enjoy the book for what it's worth. You could read related books that sprang up after it's success -- both pro and against.

What's best for me isn't necessarily going to be best for you. I was an aircraft weapons mechanic for 25 years, loved every minute of it, and would go back and do it tomorrow if they called. Moved to a new base about every 2 1/2 years on average, saw the world and got paid to do it. When I finally got around to enrolling in CCAF and CLEPed a couple classes I had myself a degree in Bomb Loading (more or less) without really trying.

Depends on what you want to do. I am 3e5x1 engineering, and I hate it. Didn't chose it though. As far as travel goes, I haven't deployed or gone TDY or anything for 3 years. I have been stuck out at Holloman AFB NM for that entire time, so don't expect it as a norm, just a possible opportunity. If you want to see the world, do something like Security Forces or something to do with Air traffic control or be a crew chief.

The top priory of the president--commander in chief is to protect the people. Do you feel safe under Obama?

The top priory of the president--commander in chief is to protect the people. Do you feel safe under Obama?
The commander-in-chief;that is the pesident's most important role. So now, all this talk of his first 100 days doesn't really address his display of setting Americans up for harm world wide. President Obama, has reversed many long-standing national security policies since taking over the White House. Ones that ensured our safety for 8 years. The speed and lack of transparent analysis and robust debate on these choices raises serious questions about the prudence and efficacy of national security decision-making in the new White House. The Administration must develop more deliberate means for formulating its national security policies and immediately move to review the rash decisions made since taking office. Yes, haste does make waste! What has Mr. Obama been doing these 100 days? Which has it been? Leading or Campaigning? The Obama Administration has directed shifts in direction without clear strategic rationale. For example take the change on Cuba; what was that all about. The Castros are thugs! The President declared that "50 years" of U.S. policy had not worked as justification for reversing long-standing U.S. policies to isolate the Cuban dictatorship. This explanation is fatuous. If the U.S. had followed a similar strategy with the Soviet Union, it would have abandoned containment and left Russia and half of Europe controlled by a nuclear-armed evil empire. What is most troubling and unexamined with this decision is how other dictators will interpret the seriousness of U.S. opposition to a dictatorial regime and its willingness to persevere against oppression and systemic violations of human and civil rights. G.W.Bush left Obama a serious missle system; not completed, but the best in the world. So, what does Obama decide to do? He wants to dumb down the missile defense system that is the greatest legacy G.W. Bush gave to him regarding American safety. The President approved a cut of about 15 percent of the Pentagon's budget for missile defense and abandoning deploying defenses in Western Europe. In addition, the White House downplayed the U.S. response to provocative missile launches by Iran and North Korea, as well as failing to obtain a serious U.N. Security Council response to either incident. Despite the advance of the North Korean and Iranian long-range missile programs, the Administration justified its decision by declaring it was more important to focus on "regional missile threats." The rationale for this decision is opaque. The ballistic missile threat has not diminished; in fact it is growing. The need to defend the United States and Western Europe has not changed. Abrupt changes in missile defense programs (that have been under development for over a decade) make no sense. He is to gut the defense budget. In a speech previewing the impending release of next year's defense budget, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates announced deep cuts in procurement programs. In addition, the Administration is phasing-out supplemental spending, shifting the costs of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan into the "core" Pentagon budget. That will leave even less money for buying new equipment. The decision included eliminating "Cold War" weapons systems, including the F-22 stealth fighter aircraft and next-generation Navy destroyer. Sounds like a commander in cuief to you? Projected Administration defense budgets over the next five years may underfund defense spending by over a trillion dollars. On Homeland Security' you REALLY feel safe with the dim-wit he picked as the head of it? OMG, lucky Canada did not declare war upon us ...What a no-brained Security leader we now have..You still feel safe? Administration officials have issued a plethora of ambivalent and contradictory statements on homeland security and counterterrorism policies since 9/11. Both the President and the secretary of homeland security have been reticent on the threat of transnational terrorism. The Department of Homeland Security has shown signs of reversing Bush Administration strategies on border security and immigration enforcement. The Administration lacks a coherent approach to homeland security and has adopted these steps before undertaking the congressionally mandated Quadrennial Homeland Security Review --(QHSR).--- And, oh how sweet. The President has promised the closure of the detention facilities at Guantanamo Bay and repudiated interrogation policies. In addition, the Administration has been unclear about its support for vitally important legislation reauthorizing critical investigation tools granted under the USA PATRIOT Act. While the President has dismissed Bush's policies on combating terrorism, the Administration has not offered a credible alternative to address the pre-9/11 problems identified by the 9/11 commission. This gap could leave the nation at risk.Or, maybe just give all the detainees loli-pops! And, I wonder just how Obaamas will feel when we get attacked. As Joe Biden guara

I know some think this is diplomacy, but I don't think any of the world powers are really buying it. I know I am not. Hillary doesn't look convinced or convincing in her role as America's good will ambassador. If they don't believe his friendliness, will they believe him if he tries to be firm with our enemies? Credibility is the most effective diplomatic tool.

Answer 4
depends on who you ask. according to "holy blood, holy grail", a book reporting scientifically valid research, the priory of sion is a secret society that has existed for almost two thousand years, protecting some kind of huge secret which gives them great power. the priory of sion has been called any number of other names, as it needed a "visible" front for its secret activities. however, if you ask, say, the history channel, they'll tell you there is no priory of sion on record until some 60 years ago, and that the one that is on record is not a secret society at all, the statutes are available to the public and so forth... personally, i am more inclined to believe in the academic research in "holy blood, holy grail", though it is contested and unconventional in some ways, since i read it, the methods and how they came to their conclusions.

Answer 5
They are a mysterious group of bitter dinner ladies who in The 15th Century got pissed off with kids for not eating their custard. One thing led to another at a staff meeting and the Priory of Sion was born. Waging war on children everywhere they hide under beds and in cupboards waiting to kidnap children and churn them in to fish cakes and possibly as a gravy to go with chips! They invented vile conspiracy theories about ghost and monsters to throw people of the trail allowing them to live in the shadows watching and waiting!

The real Priory of Sion is an association that was founded in 1956, in the French town of Annemasse, as the beginning of a massive hoax. There was a series of documentaries on cable TV awhile back all about this.

THE REAL HISTORICAL ORIGIN OF THE PRIORY OF SION Paul Smith http://priory-of-sion.com/psp/id43.html The President of the 1956 Priory of Sion was André Bonhomme. André Bonhomme was one of the four founding members of the Priory of Sion in Annemasse in 1956, along with Pierre Plantard. He is tired of being harassed by inquiries about the nature of the association and doesn't want any publicity – he refuses to be interviewed on television or on radio. He doesn't understand where people get the idea that the Priory was anything other than what it was – just a small club of friends. This was the statement he made to the BBC in 1996: "The Priory of Sion doesn't exist anymore. We were never involved in any activities of a political nature. It was four friends who came together to have fun. We called ourselves the Priory of Sion because there was a mountain by the same name close-by. I haven't seen Pierre Plantard in over 20 years and I don't know what he's up to but he always had a great imagination. I don't know why people try to make such a big thing out of nothing." And to quote French Researcher Jean-Luc Chaumeil from his 1994 book ‘The Table Of Isis, Part 2, The Templars Of The Apocalypse: The Message Of A Sacred Enigma - Tales, Legends And Myths Of Rennes-le-Chateau’: "Finally, the Priory of Sion was created in 1956. We were able to contact former members of this office, who all burst out laughing when we mentioned Rennes-le-Château. According to its former President, the association was at the time a "club for boy scouts" and NOTHING MORE….!" And from the BBC 2 Timewatch documentary The History of a Mystery (1996): "There's no evidence for a Priory of Sion until the 1950s; to find it, you go to the little town of St-Julien. Under French Law every new club or association must register itself with the Authorities, and that's why there's a dossier here showing that a Priory of Sion filed the proper forms in 1956. According to a founding member, this eccentric association took its name not from Jerusalem, but from a nearby mountain (Col du Mont Sion Alt. 786 m). The dossier also notes that the Priory's self-styled Grand Master Pierre Plantard, who is central to this story, has done time in jail." Pierre Plantard was sentenced on 17 December 1953 by the court of St Julien-en-Genevois to 6 months in prison for breaking the French Law relating to "Abus de Confiance" (fraud and embezzlement). The evidence for this is found in a letter written by the Mayor of Annemasse in 1956 to the Sub-Prefect of St Julien-en-Genevois, which can be found in the File that contains the 1956 Statutes of the Priory of Sion and the 1956 Registration Documents of the Priory of Sion. "...in our archives we have a note from the I.N.S.S.E dated 15 December 1954 advising us that Monsieur Pierre Plantard was sentenced on 17 December 1953 by the court in St. Julien-en-Genevois to six months imprisonment for a ‘breach of trust’ under articles 406 and 408 of the Penal Code." Articles 406 and 408 of the old-style Penal Code correspond to Articles 314-1, 314-2 and 314-3 of the present Penal Code. These articles are classified in Book III of the Code, ‘Crimes and offences against property’ – theft, extortion, blackmail, fraud, and embezzlement. The Official Judicial Archives relating to Pierre Plantard’s criminal convictions and prison sentences are to be found in the Tribunal de Grande Instance de Thonon-les-Bains (this being the information as provided by Le Directeur des Archives départementales de la Haute-Savoie in the town of Annecy).
